What counts as a managed asset?

A managed asset is a U.S. patent or published application tracked in your IP Brainbox portfolio for valuation, maintenance-fee analysis, and portfolio workflows. Plan limits apply to active assets across your organization.

Expired patents count while they remain active in your portfolio. Archive assets you no longer need to free capacity.
Abandoned or inactive USPTO records still count if they are active managed assets. Archive them when they are out of scope for your review.
Archived portfolio assets do not count toward your limit while archived.
Each distinct U.S. patent or application number counts as one managed asset. Related family members count separately if you add each number.
CSV import rows count when the import successfully adds or reactivates an asset. Duplicate rows, invalid numbers, and rows skipped due to errors or plan limits do not increase usage.
